A further naive enquiry, I suppose. How do I fix the gear position pointer on the end of the gear lever using the bolt on the end of the shaft within the spline ? Tightening the securing bolt to locate the pointer binds the lever and impedes its full and free movement. The gearbox is the usual laydown version on my 1951 ES2.
A small diameter washer....

...underneath the pointer that will allow it to stand off the inner shaft without fouling the outer will do the trick.
