57 Dominator fuel tap thread

Forums

Hi all

I have an annoying drip from my fuel tap and want to give it a work over. While I do this I'd like to replace the fuel tap but I'm seeing 2 thread types.

1/4 x 1/4 or 1/8 x 1/4

Can anyone confirm what thread would be on my '57 Dominator 88 please.

Thanks

Hi Nigel.

I can't speak for a 57 Dommie BUT my 57 Model 50 uses 1/8 BSP threads into the tank.

Hope this helps.

PS: If the common 1/4 BSP is too big then you might have your answer.

I was has hoping to avoid that and do a quick change but it seems the only choice to be sure.

Good info on the sizes.

Thanks

I have just re-furbished the taps  (orriginal Ewarts) on the 99 and Atlas , new corks make then a bit stiff but no leaks for a few years . Costs me about £1  to refurbish each tap and takes a few minuits with a small punch and a little vice.

Makes sense, I'll give it a go as I have to drain it to check the thread anyway.

I have the 2 ended sliding tap, ordered some corks, found some info so will have a go.

Thanks

Fit corks with some lube (I am trying red rubber grease)  and they will be very tight but will soon ease off in use.  Get tank clear of rust particles as they wear the corks on the way through.

If your threads in the tank are 1/8 BSP you may find the taps a little hard to find.

I bought mine from a B*A Gold Star dealer.

Be interesting to know what size they are. Though the 57(& 58) Norton Singles are in fact a lash up of Matchless cycle parts. Based on that, yours may well be 1/4 BSP?
