1952 ES2 Barrel

Forums

Hi all. Mike Pemberton has the engine from my project to rebuild but has identified that the barrel is from a later (‘55 onwards) model. I’m therefore desperate to find a replacement. I’ve emailed Yeomans, put a wanted add in the classifieds, Googled for potential suppliers and am watching eBay. Does anyone know of any potential sources please?

Thanks, Mark.

Mark,

What is the difference between the two?  I have some earlier (pre 1955) engines that I can check if I know what I'm looking for!

Hi Mark/Phillip,

The 1952 barrel is used with the cast iron head and has a 3/8th inch spigot. The 1955 version uses the Alfin iron skull alloy head and has a 1/4 inch spigot. The overall length is the same and the fins are the same size. For 1957 the fins were larger to suit the AMC all alloy head and was still the same length.

The barrel you want was used from 1948 to 1954 inclusive and I guess over 10,000 were made, so there should be a few around, probably used as door stops.

Thanks Philip and Richard. Mike also mentioned the 3/8" spigot. Very interesting to read the differences by year, every day is a school day!

Philip, if you do have something suitable that you are willing to part with please let me know.

Mike just called me. He has located a barrel. Thanks Phil, Richard and Rab for going out of your way to help me.
