Hi , just wondering what the current opinion of aftermarket fork stantions is , i am finding pairs of them on ebay that claim to be hard chromed and ground that are cheaper than a single tube from AN , but also older posts on other sites warning of terrible quality and tube walls too thick . As getting origionals renovated is the most costly option i will probably get the AN ones unless others on here have been pleased with the cheaper ones

Remember, the upper bushes…
Remember, the upper bushes will reduce down when fitted, so there is not much to be gained from matching them on a stanchion as you don't know how much each one will reduce down.
Racers don't like stiction in the system and use different materials, but for the road standard items are more than adequate and remember 180cc in each leg just like the Norvil racer notes, 150 cc is not enough for the longer damper tubes in the Commando.

One of our club members asked me to have a look at some new stantions he had bought for his 650 triumph as he was concerned about the play in the new fork bushes (the wheel/fork sliders could be waggled about at full extention) Upon measuring everything up i found the stantions undersize, machined incorrectly and the worse aspect, they were made from ERW tube (electric resistance welded tube) You could see the weld seam down the middle!
A new pair from AN fitted perfectly and are made from the proper material.
