1939 ES2 Trials parts book

Hi!

Having bought a very nice 1939 Trials ES2, I need a parts list for this model. I presume it had a skid plate under the engine, and need an idea of what this looked like to have one made. Can anyone help?

I've never seen additional Spare Parts Lists for the variations available during the late 1930s. Nothing for the OHC and ES2 spring frames, the large fuel tanks, nor the 'Competition' (Trials) trim mentioned in the brochure as available as an extra cost option on all models. In practice, it seems to have been more common to base them upon the Open Diamond frame. Although the brochure refers to a high ground clearance frame, I recall Peter Roydhouse saying that they don't seem to have had....The WD16H did, but it won't take a Model 19 or OHC engine, and high clearance cradle frames as used by ES2 and OHC don't seem to have existed. If I compare the height of the engine under the fuel tank, I cannot see where the extra clearance came from beyond front wheel size. There is no mention in the brochure of crankcase protection, although the plates had been fitted for some years to India Office military machines. In the case of the ES2; the frame cradle would give a degree of protection. Did they ever make a Trials Spec 16H ? It was theoretically available, although I can't imagine what the raised exhaust looked like, especially in 1938 ! There is lots that isn't clear about these little-documented machines and sadly, Peter Roydhouse is no longer with us to clarify these things. Trials 1939

I know that the front brake moved to the right side for 39 on OHV and SV models, but I notice that the brake was on the right for trials versions in 37 and 38. Is this because they used the forks from the Inters?

Yes, it's the integral brake with the parallel forks from the Inters....
