I have very recently purchased a 1949 ES2 with a cast iron barrel. I keen to source a good maintenance manual as am so new to this. Can anyone advise please.
Thanks

I don't know..
.. if the one Mark mentions is the "official" one by Edgar Franks (a designer at Norton) but that is my bible. This is it: https://www.nationalmotorcyclemuseum.co.uk/product/norton-1932-to-1949-all-models-pearson-maintenance-repair-manual-by-e-m-franks-comprehensive-carroll1134/
If you become a supporter of the NMM you get a free BMS reprint every year, as well as unlimited free entry to the museum. A bargain!
BTW all ES2s had iron barrels and all (except the 500T) iron heads up till the mid 1950s.

Hi Rob,
I got a photocopy BMS document from the National Motorcycle Museum. "Maintenance and Instruction Manual" (ref 2938) which covers singles and twins from '48 to '60, over 200 pages and very useful. I find the spare parts list very useful also. I got mine from the same source but it is for '51 to '54. There may be one for '49. There's also a Haycraft/Clymer "The Book of the Norton 1938 - 1956". Also useful even though a lot of it is identical to the maintenance manual.
Cheers, Mark.
