Electronic Ignition

Forums

I am rebuilding a 58 Dominator with coil ignition. I am considering converting to electronic, but there are various types, some using original distributor, others not. Any advice/ experience would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Your first job is convert to 12V. I can fit a Boyer based ignition within your 18D2 which will need twin coils and do away with the rotor on the dizzy. If you wanted to fit a traditional 'Commando Triumph twin Boyer' or even a Pazon then you will need the housing that was fitted on the Mercury or last Atlas, early Commando and of course what ever drive sprocket is dictated by the parallel shaft into the timing cover. At the end of the day it is probably easiest to stick with the 18D2. in fact a couple companies make kits for this job as well as me.   aoservices.co.uk

Thanks Alan, much appreciated, I will stick with 18D2, and will be in touch with your company.
