atlas alternator position ?

Forums

hi , i have an atlas motor fitted to an ajs , coming round to refitting the chain case (after an engine rebuild ) the position of the alternator in relation to the rotor is puzzling me , it only sits halfway into the alternator ? i found this when i stripped the motor for a rebuild so it must have been working before i touched it  ? or not ? anyone else had experience of this ? if i space the rotor out on the crankshaft there's only about 5 threads to hold the nut on , this dosent seem right , so my other thought was to make longer primary chain case  studs and space the alternator inwards to suit the rotor position ? the photo is how i found it when i stripped the motor for the rebuild

all thoughts and comments on this gratefully received

Could be an incorrect sprocket, there would appear to be face wear on the sprocket indicating misalignment with the clutch?.

Hi Andy I think you have the spacer in front of the rotor when it should be between the sprocket & the rotor.

Hi pete ,I tried the spacer between the sprocket and rotor , but this left only a few threads on which to screw the nut , didn’t seem right ?

Ill fit the clutch robert and see what it all lines up like .

HI Andy  Have you got the right crank shaft nut ? it should have a reduced plain shoulder which goes inside the rotor which should give you enough threads. Peter
