Model 99 cylinders

Forums

Hi all - doing a little advance planning for my someday 1956 Dominator 99. The cylinders have several large pieces of finning broken off and missing. I missed a set on eBay that came up here in the USA. Aside from the missing boss for the dynamo strap , does anyone know if the the new 600/650 cylinders listed on Norvil’s site will work with my crankcases / cylinder head ?

Thanks for any help  - Richard

I think its a gamble.  In theory it should work. It all depends on the quality of the product and Norville's ability to  provide QA to the finished article .Will they accept a return and pay for the shipping of a used item that turns out to be unacceptable" IN YOUR OPINION" ?. Not convinced of that. So its back to a gamble,  do you feel lucky yank?.

If anyone has bought new cylinders and had a few thousand miles of trouble free use , it would be helpful to post. I am very lucky, my std but worn cylinders cleaned up at 10 thou  and I managed to find some pukka 650 pistons. I'm happy to accept a bit of cold slap and have an air filter fitted,I also use a touch of 2 stroke in the fuel to protect at cold starts. With luck the motor will see me out. Funnily it was me that instigated the initial idea production of these cylinders, but there were problems with businesses going bust and Norville picked up the pieces. I do hope they work ,time will tell.

hello, now hears is a tip  I would wait until the right set of barrels  come up for sale  as these have the thick cast mounting  on the right side front push rod tunnel for the dynamo stud mounting,  and the later one do not have this and you have a real job of fitting one  the 650 are a different barrel that's why they have a different parts  number as these barrels are set back  just about 3/10th, and if you doing your digging around you find a good set of barrels and BHB pistons as well  these are standard items,  for the 1956 model 99  these parts are out there is finding them  that's the fun part so  good luck  and happy new year  I had 56 years good with Norton  twins                 yours  anna j

I have a set of knackered 99 barrels with good fins if it's just fins you need.

Thanks Gordon - another problem is I have not disassembled the engine yet so I have no idea of the condition of the bores . Are you in the UK ? I am in the USA

Have you asked Norvil?

I thought Andover were planning to make Dommi barrels but because of the drawing issue they probably won't now, such a shame, disgrace really. How can Norvil be advertising barrels to factory drawings when the club is 10's of thousands of pounds into litigation with ANIL over the factory drawings issue? What a mess, allegedly. Hopefully not breaking the new posting rules here

Hi Mike - I will indeed ask them as well but I believe they are off for the Holidays  - also a good thing to ask other opinions as well .
