Prop-stand leg for '67 Atlas

Forums

The '67 Atlas I'm restoring has lost it's prop-stand leg and fulcrum pin. The bracket is still intact. Norton's Master Parts List 1966-1967-1968 has part nr. 034048 as correct for 1967 Atlas and P11, and part nr. 18750 as correct for 650SS of the same year. Dealers today stock prop-stand legs for Slimline frames with part numbers 06-7719 (RGM, Norvil, Baxter), 03-4070 (Andover), 18750 (NOC) etc. I've written to several suppliers, but nobody can tell me what the difference was between the original 034048 and the 650SS variant, and what - if any - the correct equivalent is today. Does anybody have the facts on this? /Chris

The P11 series of bikes, uses a pear shaped foot on the end of the prop stand, and the Atlas and the 650ss used the foot with an extra curved piece to it. The later pear shaped prop stands, were reinforced, and were thicker, at the middle. The lugs were also upgraded and made thicker. The reason being that owners, would start their bikes on the prop stand, and in some cases they could or would break. The earlier prop stand clamps uses a nut and stud to clamp the top of the clamps, the later ones used a bolt. The factory allocated an 035 part number to the upgraded prop stand parts. Norvil, list a thicker, or heavier duty prop stand lug clamps. Get a copy of the Norton Spare parts List for1964 and look on page 23. This shows the Atlas and 650ss prop stand, in its complete form. The part number will be in the text.
