When is Norton Dove Grey not Dove Grey ?

Hello Folks.

I've been sat on this since June last year and pondering how to let you know. So, in a nutshell Dove Grey is a paint (as I understand it) applied to late 50's early 60's 'DeLuxe' models of the Dominator and Navavigator/Jubilee ranges. The Technical Forum offers some three close alternatives (if you can still get 'em).

After some "research" into how/what IS Norton Dove Grey, I took a hint from some old posting and dug out the rear stay bracket frombeneath a Navigator DeLuxe "bathtub" enclosure that had been in my loft for a few years - thus unexposed (insofar as is possible) to UV light.

This I took down to a guy called Alan Bailey at Colorite Paint Company at 169 Boston Road Henwell London W7 3QJ tel:- 020 8579 3381 or www.colorite.co.uk (note the single 'r' in the name if seaching on Google etc.). Their website is small, as is their shop, but I provide this for your reference, as they now have a colour called "Norton Dove Grey" within their computer, which is as close as I can see to thesaid Dove Grey, derived from said rear stay member.

I has some spray cans and 1/2 litre of brush paint synthetic enamel made up and am happy with the results (although I've still to fit the Petrol Tank, but have applied some of the Brush Paint to bits of the frame). Alan said his company could supply said colour in synth enamel, 2K acylic or cellulose etc as required to same colour scheme, When asked if he could mail out - he said he could but you will need to apply for rates depending on where you are (essentially local Royal Mail rates).

I shall be using him again for any further supplies and have no interest in the above company apart from him being a "good guy" (so far) and promising him I'd let you guys know - having said I was a Norton Owners Club member. His rates for the synth were pretty good - £52-00 all up for 4 spray cans and the 1/2 litre brush paint - including a £10-00 (reduced) matching fee - which I've now alreay paid ! (just quote Norton Dove Grey to him!).

Enjoy - let's see what you think!
