In the case of oil additives the research suggests that unused particles which fail to attach to the relevent internal surfaces can fall to the oil pump and cause clogging.

I must admit to having used slik 50 with success but never had to split the subaru and citroen engines it went into. Both started easier and were quieter.

In grease I see no real issues but have nit used ptfe grease myself as I have no needto do so.

In the 1990's I was asked to look at the possibility of incorporating these additives into the lubricant packages which we supplied to about 30+ % of the worlds lubricant marketers. I was unable to find any advantage in friction and wear studies conducted under a range of test conditions.

There are/ were a number of FTC judgments condemning the claims made by the various aftermarket additive suppliers including Slick 50.

And for those in our club who believe in conspiracy theories, this was not because BIG OIL pulled strings.

That's interesting Charles. PTFE doesn't make intuitive sense as as additive to liquids since its low friction is due to its very smooth molecules when solid. Old fashioned graphite slips on planes between layers on an atomic scale but solid PTFE is quite strong stuff.

The additive that was added, gave off a volatile odour, which once detected by the Hypothalamus in the brain, convinced the owner of the said machine that at it's max speed it was travelling was 15mph faster than it's real speed @ 1,000 rpm less, that there was no vibration and it was the best motorcycle in the World! Many owners, succumbed to this cunning mysterious effect!
