Upright gearbox kickstart

Forums

Hi,

Can anybody shed some light on why my kickstart on an upright gearbox falls to the floor?

I have fitted a new spring and it stays in position when stopped but only falls when the bike is running as if its well "just free". Looking at the drawing I cannot really see what holds it back upright.

I have changed the oil in the box and added molyslip but to no avail.

I have to hold it in place with cable ties and its driving me insane!

Does the kickstart spring back to position when kicking through without starting motor ? Have you removed cover and checked spring again ? Might be possible it is not located properly or even broken. You wouldn't be the first person to fit a new spring only to have it break straight away.

Almost certainly bad layshft bearings/bushes. When running, layshaft is dragging on k/s bush causing it to drop. Needs immediate attention.

The castle slotted spring carrier where the spring slides in at the rear rotates hence it falls back down. I have been told that this castle piece should be a tight fit in the gearbox casing and stay in position as if it moves down this looses all spring compression. Where the spiing slides into the kick shaft always remains upright.

So is it my layshaft bearing or a loose fitting spring holder that should be tight in the casing?
