Timing-side Red Fibre Washers

Forums

I have a small oil leak from one of the timing cover screws. strangely it is from the upper top right one. I can only assume the thread hole passes all the way through to the inside of the crankcase wall?...Anyway, I want to fit the red fibre washers on each screw which should stop this.

Question: could someone tell me the actual size? Due to the close fit within the screw "tunnels" the washers need to be small enough on their outer diameter with the obvious hole for the screw...much appreciate a directionto a supplier....Many thanks in advance......Les

Well I've just ordered a mixed pack of 100 small Imperial fibre washers so hopefully I'll find enough of the right size in thepack to do the job.

I'll leave the original question on here though as regards the reason why the screws can leak, which does seem odd as after all they are surrounded by the timing case metal and the gasket which surrounds the holes Frown...Les

Thank you Les....I've just bought the ones you suggested as the mixed pack I've ordered might not have enough of this size anyway, I'm sure they'll all get used eventually....Cheers....Les

Gasket sets used to include fibre washers for the timing cover screws. I always found that if you tightened up the timing cover good and tight, the fibre washers chewed up. If you didn't tighten the screws enough to chew up the washers, the screws would gently unscrew...
