Hi All,
I am trying to help a friend with the timing on a 1959 ES2 and have found in one of my books that it should be 38 Degrees,13.5mm or 0.5312" BTDC fully advanced. The question is as how do you set to a fully advanced position with the distributor.
All of my Norton's are magneto with manual advance and have never worked with distributors.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Cheers
Andy
What you need is a thick…
What you need is a thick washer with a hole that goes over the inner spindle of the distributor. Turn and hold the cam to full advance, fit the washer and fit and tighten the screw (plus another smaller washer if necessary) that normally holds the cam so locking the ignition.

It is quite hard to advance the points cam as the bob weights can stop correct adjustment. The other option is to set it 8 degrees fully retarded without moving the points cam. It "should" then give you 38 degrees when it automatically advances.
