Swinging arm bush replacement

Forums

Having removed the rubber bushes in the swinging arm on my slimline model 50 prior to powder coating, I decided to get a set of new ones. The old ones were reasonbly tight and required a press to remove, but the new ones are 5 thou less dia than the old and consequently are only a push fit in the swinging arm, I am thinking of using lock tight bearing fit when replacing them can anyone see a problem with this?

No doubt these we're purchased from a 'Norton specialist' !!!!!

had exactly the same problem but since rebuild the swing arm is working fine on the bike and no play.

no need for lock tight etc as they will stay in place once fitted.

Many thanks for your reply John, Yes they were purchased from a 'Norton specialist !'.......No names no pack drill. These bushes are just a slack push fit so I will have to fit something to stop them turning in the swinging arm when I clamp thespindle bolt up.

These bushes are supposed to be an interferrence fit. I believe the original factory spec was between 0.5 and 2 thou oversize for this purpose.

The bushes that I purchasedfor my swinging arm, from a well-known 'Norton Specialist', were actually 5 thou oversize and crumpled when being pressed into place. The replacements, from a differentNorton Specialist',were exactly the same size and had to be ground down to fit properly.

There are some bearing/thread-lock goos which will handle up to 10 thou and above gaps. I can't think of an easy alternative apart from water. Rusted bushes are always a pig to get out.

Possible alternative........plating??? Sleeving???
