Swinging arm

Forums

I have a 1972 commando and I have an issue on the swinging arm.

The loop that is welded towards the front that you then bold the front of the chain guard to has broken away. The break is a clean one.

So how do I get to reattach the loop, I would guess the best way is to remove the swinging arm weld back the loop and get the arm re-powercoated. But this seems rather a lot of work for just a small issue.

I am new to older British bikes so even though I do have the ability to take the bike apart I would like to hear form anybody that might have an easier fix.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

An easier fix would be a a jubilee clip or clips around the arm holding down a bracket, the bracket can get grooves worn into it from loose chains anyway as I have had my grooves filled in with weld in preparation for powder coating. A bit of a bodge but I used a similar fix on my B44 swingarm with a jubilee clip until I prepared it for powder coating and welded on a stronger bracket than the original, it lasted a few years.
