I've been running a Mk 111 Commando with a Phoenix HIF6 SU carb for many years. It has given excellent service but does result in popping on overrun which for some reason I'm starting to find irritating and a bit anti social.
I've always assummed that the popping was due to the SU providing a much leaner mixture. However it has occurred to me that it may be due to air leaks in the exhaust system. I use some rather poorly fitting non balance down pipes with peashooter silencers.
Do other S U users have popping symptoms?

Gordon,
Run a Search on this site using 'SU' as the parameter. You will find that there has been plenty of correspondence on SU carbs. I doubt there is much more to say than has already been said so this thread need not repeat it all.
Some SU setups pop, some do not. Mine always did. A solution, or at least a partial one, is to fit a throttle disc with an overrun valve. Contact Burlen Ltd.'s SU division to obtain one of these.
