Dear NOC members,
Can anyone help me identify a 3 speed Sturmey Archer gearbox?.
It has the ratios 1/1.34/2.58 stamped in the back of the shell.
And numbers FIII 7827 and then CR (close ratio?) stamped next to it on the top. It has no numbers cast at all, all numbers have been stamped on the shell.
Any info is greatly appreciated, regards,
Malte

Thank you David, I did jus…
Thank you David,
I did just come across the 1931 Brochure of the "type III" gearbox.
It says close ratio: 1/1.33/2.57 and standard ratios 1/1.47/2.97
Still not there, but closer.

The Sturmey Archer 3 speed in 1932 came in several forms. 'special close' with ratios 1, 1.33 and 1.77 to 1 (no kick start); 'standard close' with ratios 1, 1.27 and 2.4 to 1 (with kick starter); 'wide' with ratios 1, 1.47 and 2.49 to 1. Yours isn't any of these but it is closest to the one in the middle ('standard close')
