Sturmey Archer 3/4" kick start lever

Forums

Does any member know of any suppliers, parts dealers etc that would have a 3/4" (19mm) drive, straight kick start lever for a Sturmey Archer CS gearbox? I have trawled the net from Australia to Austria....nothing.

Does anyone have one for sale, in the shed as a spare or would lend me one so I can copy it and have one made? I would sooner buy tho as to make from high tensile steel that would not bend may prove a challenge.

Any help greatly appreciated surely one is out there?

Thank you guys

Hello Carl, I think I can help you with a 3/4" drive, straight kickstart lever for a SA CS box. I restored a 1926 M18 some years ago and with the parts was one extra lever. If you are interested please send me your emailaddress and I will send you photo`s of the lever.

Regards from Svein.

Svein,

I've been searching the NOC archives for information on a 1927 Sturmey Archer kickstart lever and found this thread.  The kickstart on my Model 18 is curved, see photo, and the lever ends up right above the footrest and in the back of the leg.  I'm therefore looking for a straight lever.

As Sturmey Archer CS gearboxes were probably used by other companies did they fit a straight lever and what is my curved lever from?  As the kickstart shaft is 0.750 inch diameter a friend suggested that a bicycle pedal can be adapted to fit, has anyone done this before?

Did you part with your spare straight lever, or do you still have it?

Regards, Phil

Philip.. why not replace your curved lever on a different spline?  The route taken by the bar from the spline to the pedal is surely irrelevant?

Oh for a spline!  The Sturmey Archer gearbox has a cotter pin shaft, so not straightforward to move to a new position.

Hi Phil,

Pretty sure the curved lever is not original. It should be straight.
