Steering damper friction washers

Just had a brilliant weekend riding Exmoor with the Somerset VMCC. Unfortunately the weather also turned very wet - as the rain fell the steering became so bad I stopped and checked the tyres, no problem, started to get so bad it became virtually un- rideable. Before I phoned for recovery I checked the steering damper - released it and all was well for a while. It started happening again but another half turn and normality resumed. The friction material supplied by the club is obviously swelling when wet!

The bike is an ES2 - 1956 - but I think the friction discs are used across the board. Just to let people know - will try to find a more suitable material.

The mystery is solved - Norton specicifed Ferodo friction discs - the club one look like Tufnol - however it is not the correct material if you are out in the wet.
