Spark plugs

I have been given a box of Bosch super4 FR78 plugs, They are extended nose resistor plugs with 4 electrodes ,going to give these a try in my coil ign 99. which has copper core leads and non suppressed caps. Can't find any usefull cross references to check these but they would appear a little colder than my usual plugs? anyone know how to grade these??.

Hi Robert, there is a lot of paranoia regarding spark plugs, since you have them, give them a try ( but take a spanner and another set of plugs with you on the first run). If performance suffers you have lost nothing, if it improves let us know!

Wouldn't use them with a magneto, but with coil and points I don't see why not. I would expect them to perform just fine.

Hi Guys, I have had a box of these for a year or so,Son bought them for his old Golf 1.8 gti,Dommy gave me lots of problems in the IOM this year with plugs sooting up,got through all my stock!, Faulty plug cap and dissy oiling up (6 start gear!) ,I'll probably go back to 3 start gear and thicker oil till i get the crank re-ground.The bike was ridden hard 2 up which seems to have raised the issue --and bedded in the rings well as i can hardly kick it over now.

I seem to remember that pre-commando extended nose were not listed ,but came in with the commando, Was it just that they were not availiable?.

Well it starts and idles well on these plugs ,still would like to get some idea of the heat range of these plugs ,but can't find them on any charts.

I run triple electrode plugs from a MK2 GTI golf in my BSA B25, not had any issues yet or needed to change it so my set of 4 will last a few years.

Don't know what the percieved problems are with extended nose plugs but I have used them for years (88/99/Atlas/850 Commando) without the slightest problem.

The wear is shared between all the electrodes so 3 electodes will have 1/3 of the wear of a single electrode plug. Introduced when the car makers were extending routine service intervals.
