Sorting out the Mixture

I have an exhaust pipe fitted with an o2 sensor mount , I would like to try an Air/fuel ratio meter /guage. Has anyone tried this? Is it worth buying a cheap (chinese) guage?.

Hi Robert, I looked into it my self some time ago and came to the the conclusion that it is much simpler/easier/cheaper to use the standard way to find the correct mixture by trial and error. There is absolutely endless info on this subject on the net, but be prepared to put in hour upon hour of research until you are sure you can glean the information you require. First off is wideband versus narrow band and then how you read this info and then whether the data read is actually applicable.

Good luck with this if you go through with it, I'd be really interested to read about your results.

As an aside, I read recently that Andover Norton (In their June Newsletter) are doing a similar thing to a Commando - about a quarter of the way down the page but I haven't read an update on this.

If you go to B50.org and look out Beat's posts he has fitted an O2 sensor to his B50, he is Swiss and his english is interesting shall we say but you should get the jist of how he did it. He rides long distances on the bike so it must be working for him. You need to go for the Bosch wideband sensor, not the narrow band version and the sensor pre heater needs to be connected.
