Sludge trap?

Forums

Should there be a sludge trap in my 1956 19S crank? I can't see one.

My bike has stopped wet-sumping. Normally this would be a good thing but I have owned the bike since '76 and it has always wet-sumped. I am concerned that something has changed in the lube system and that the big end may not be getting enough oil. The last job I didwas a rebore, at which time the oil pump conical washer pluscrankshaft feed jet & springwere replaced. Maybe the outer timing cover is not sealing properly to the pump. Oil flow from the timing case breather has increased significantly so maybe the pump is pressurising the timing case instead of delivering oil to the crank. Alternatively, maybe there is an obstruction in the crank oilways, hence the sludge trap question. Looks like the timing cover has to come off again. Anyone got any other possible explanation?

Cheers, Ian McD
