Can anyone conferm the size of the black painted line round the tank of a 1949 inter ? Also the timing chain has a huge difference between slack and tight.do I need a new chain? ps carnt seem to upload any photos .I am a simpleton on computers please help. Also how do I go about redgerstering a 1932 inter frame with no log book ?I have a 1932 CS1 bottom end which I would like to put in it as its the same year ,is it that hard?

If there is a 'huge difference between slack and tight' - are both the sprockets concentric? The length of the chain is a fixed value no matter how the engine is rotated even if it has stretched a bit.

It might be original sin. Or a shaft might be bent?

The pull on the chain by the action of the valve springs may be giving a false impression, where it seems tight pull a spanner on the cam sprocket nut to see if slack can be gained against the action of the cam.

Ian, the best advice that I have seen on the issue of paintiong tanks is from George Cohen. Follow this link and read item 9 on the list.

Thanks paul.Found in Roy Bacon's book 1 1/4 inch for the black line.(As far as I can make out) seems to be the case.
