Running in after rebore and big end bearing replacement ?

Forums

Having rebored the cylinder and replaced the big end bearing on my ES2 I have received conflicting advice from friends regarding running in schedules,

Any advice would appreciated,

TIA

There is usually conflicting advise over running in and I personally think that a bit of common sense and 'feel' is important.

It's probably a good idea to change the oil at 100 and 500 miles - it certainly can' t do any harm.

I'm careful for the first 50 - 100 miles as the engine is pretty much an unknown up until that point. If it hasn't seized during the first hundred miles then it probably isn't going to, unless you do something silly. You have to be able to ride the thing safely on the road which means being able to go up to at leat 35mph fairly soon. After the first hundred miles, I use progressively more revs until at some point between 500 and 1000 miles, if it feels OK then I'll use most of the performance (but not thrash it) in shortish bursts.

The best advice, I think is don't 'lug' it and don't thrash it until it feels loose and consistently happy under all conditions. These types of engines do seem to need to settle down with everything in alignment before they feel comfortable.
