Rimini and beyond

Hi all.

Me and Mark are now in Romania having gone as far as Asia in Istanbul.

Having an unbelievable ride and it continues tomorrow with the Transfagarasan DN7C road.

One more week to make our way home and 5k miles.

Commander and Commando riding fine.

Regards Paul and Mark

Hi Paul, could you (and others) write-up your experiences during the Rimini Rally for Roadholder article(s)?

Cheers,

Well done! I love this long distance riding...I am starting for Ireland tomorrow. After returning from Italy, I just had time to give the atlas an oil change, change the tyres, and fix the alternator. Of course, a less exotic experience, but it reminds me of my tour of Hungary, Slovenia, Croatia and return through Northern Italy in 2013, after getting my teeth done in Budapest. That's what our bikes are for, not transporting over a week end in the back of a van! Enjoy your trip!

Michel, not all of us are fit enough to ride 2500 miles there and back so before you criticise those who vanned their bikes to Italy, show a little compassion. This time last year I was undergoing cancer surgery, my travelling companion had a new heart valve fitted, Ian Loram also has had a traumatic year health wise. The important thing to us is, we made it by one means or another and had a thoroughly good time. Your avatar is noted, I look forward to meeting you so we can talk bikes.

paul pattinson, had a fantastic time on Italy 2016 my first rally been a member for quite a few years, trailered down with other member Paul Gibbons,Surrey branch member his Commando my Atlas so we are among the wimps who do not opt to ride all that way,am looking forward to the New Forest Rally be using my Motorhome and trailer so hope i do not get tarred and feathered when i arrive i enjoy Nortons and other makes of bike but getting on for 71 years of age to ride to Italy and back is not for me surely the spirit of these events is to support them whichever is easiest for the individual i certainly found a marvellous cameradie with everyone helping wherever they could,so please stop these remarks they are unhelpful.

Hi All

I had a fantastic time on my first Norton International rally, and met some great people, I also took my Mod 50 behind the motor home, and wasn't made to feel a wimp, this was the only way I could have gone and taken my wife with me!(no comments please !) the organization was very slick, and the marshals were amazing............... many thanks George, your wife and the Norton team for arranging a great event.............Where are we going next year?

Many thanks to all involved

Regards John O

David Templeton myself and my wife did a Romania trip in 2008 on 2 Commandos and a kawa. Transfaragan was a nice ride. The trip was published in a few magazines, sent it to RH editor, told it was too long, never seen it published in RH. So guess what, I got paid by mainstream mags for the story & pics, it wasn't good enough for RH, that's why I don't bother any more

Hi all,

We got back OK late today - my mobile went US about 4 days ago so that was the end of the blog updates.

After a days rest in Budapest on Thursday, we hit the motorways and across Germany etc to Calais and the tunnel in two days.

My total mileage was 5,137 - must change the oil and filter!

Regards - Paul and Mark.

Re submit the artical and if the editor does not print it send the Norton club hand maidens to his house and give him a jolly good spanking. And if he still does not print it send them around his house every day untill he does do it.

We just had an article for the last seven months about a Commando rebuild, I'm sure he had a good spanking for that!

Weil done Paul andMark. Can't wait to read more about it. I am now in Doolin, Ireland, where I have just attended the folk festival, it was great.

Although I am going to be 67 on July 13th, I rode my atlas to Italy, and that's after breaking my leg while skiing on January 28th . After riding it back home in Bordeaux, I had time for an oÃ?l change, a change of tyres, and off I was to Cherbourg for the ferry to Ireland.

Note the number of verbs " to ride" in the above text, then please check the title and purpose of this section. Then check this against some of the answers I got after my last remark. I wonder if I, or they, got the wrong section?

I shall repeat that I am interested in riding my Nortons, enjoy reading about others who do, and although I quite understand that some can't do that, I can't really see why that should stop me doing it, talking about it, and enjoying reading about it! Especially, sorry for repeating myself, in this section.

This does not mean I didn't enjoy meeting and talking to those who did not... No hard feelings!

I rather like the idea of hand maidens and spanking - perhaps they could also tie me up and call me names! Seriously though - Gino, if you still have the article I'd like to see (and publish) it - I wasn't the Editor in 2008 and I don't recall ever seeing it.

Cheers,

Mark Woodward.

Michel,

Pleased to hear that you made it safely to Ireland, I'm very impressed with the miles (KM) you do on your Atlas. I was two tents along from you in Italy (Red Commander) my wife and I took in five countries and covered just over 4000 miles on our way to and from the rally in Italy we had a great time and met some really nice people.

I too would very much like to read the trip report from Paul and Mark, hopefully they will find the time to write it up for us all to enjoy.

All the best and safe riding

Tony

Thanks Tony, good to hear from you. The petrol was available again when I got back to France, so no problem. The atlas is as good to me as I am to her! But being retired, I now have time to make sure she'll take me reliably where I want her to. I must say she's been very good these last 3000 miles. She'll get a new set of chains when I get home.

See you sometime at another rally.
