Rear wheel bearings

Forums

Ive got the rear hub (Q.D) in bits, 1950 rigid frame. I have drawn the assembly to suss out how it goes together and Im happy I know what goes where. However I have measured up for the bearings for the hub and they appear to be metric sizes. The hub is 40mm bore and the spindle is 14. Is this correct, are the hub bearings metric ??

Ive answered my own question really but would appreciate comments.

Hi John,

Yes they are metric, I think the bearings are :-

6203 - 17 X 40 X 12 Single Row Deep groove Ball Bearing

4203 - 17 X 40 X 16 Double Row Deep Groove Ball Bearing

I seem to remember I fitted sealed bearings to my 1951 Rigid Big 4

I'm not sure that the wheel spindle is metric. The bearingsfit/runon a distance piece that the spindle passes through.

Iâm sure someone will correct me if Iâve got it wrong.

Cheers Alan

Just checked the parts list, you are spot on, theres a distance piece I missed. Hopefully its in a box somewhere, thanks again.
