Hi all, I am in the process of repainting a 1960 ES2, when I stripped the rear Girlings they were originally Black although the original colour of the bike was dark Green.
Were they originally black with the rest of the bike in dark Green or were the dampers also green?
Thanks Rob

Hi Ian, Thanks for the info. I was going to use the old Girlings as they still seem to have good damping, problem getting the damper body powder coated though, might not like the heat.
back to the quest for a rear engineplate cover,
Many thanks Rob

Hi Rob.
They certainly won't like being powder coated at 200 degrees C!!! This will melt solder!
The cover is hard to get, I've one on mine and it goes right under the points housing almost touching the rear of the crankcase. Itmight be easy enoughto weld an extension to a Dommi one. I can supply photo's and dimensions if you like.
Cheers.
Ian.

Hi Ian,
Yes if you could supply photos with dimensions that would be a great help, I might be able to make one, seems strange that theres no one with any in stock, tried RGS & Norvil even the club shop's
showing nil stock. I bet most were thrown away in the 60's
Thanks again Rob

Hi.
They would had been dark (Forest) green (with chromed lower shrouds). The ones on your bike were probably replacements from Girling which were invariably black.
Incidentally, if you are replacing them with Hagon shocks then be aware that the original shrouds a slightly smaller in diameter and won't fit - just in case you go to the expense of having them re-chromed and repainted.
Regards.
Ian.
