Re: Need help identifying parts on racer

Hello, I am a new member here as well as a new Norton owner.

I have acquired one of my late father's old racers and would like some help in identifying some of the parts on the bike as it seems to have been put together with some non stock stuff...

The bike has a wideline featherbed frame from a dominator 88. The engine is a 750 Atlas lll. I'm not sure on the year of the frame, but the engine is a '68 I believe. The magneto is a Joe Hunt. The rims are Akront aluminum. And while it has a conical Manx rear drum brake, the front brake has been changed to what looks like a Suzuki gt 750 dual drum unit. There are quite a few more modifications inside and out.

My biggest questions are: 1 How to identify the forks. I'm not sure whether they are roadholders or if they have been changed out. 2 Could anyone identify the tanks, oil and petrol by sight if I posted an image. Also looking for identification of the fairing and seat...

I will post a picture to start. I'm hoping that someone will have the knowledge to help me as I begin this project...

As a side note, the bike does run and is rideable as is but I would like to do at least a cosmetic restoration...

Unfortunately I do not seem to be able to attach an image... If you think you may be able to help, please respond with an email address that I could send images to. Or advise on attaching images...

Gâday Alec,

Images are uploaded usually as attachments (scroll down past body text editor box, but file sizes are important; maximum one meg). If you wish, you may pre-create your post in Word and cut and paste into the body text box, that works too. I tried this with embedded small photos but that failed! However there is a "Images" function which I have just tried below the "Attachments" section and that appears to to work as well as you may attach an image title, see enclosed test image!

Other data may also edited via a cut & paste using the evil empire Microsoft short cut keys. {Control V for paste, C for cut and X for delete etc.) mouse controls are not supported.

Engine & frame numbers also assist with date-tracing and the NOC records officer will assist you, but suggest you do not post too much data here, as this is public domain and there are dodgy people out there. Send the information to friendly records officer for dating assistance. Frame number is on frame / swinging arm gusset side plate, LHS, as sitting on the bike, engine number on crankcase directly below the barrel, also LHS. The Suzuki front brake is a very common âupgradeâ and a good stopper, these were / are highly sought after for both Cafe racer builders and the racing fraternity as period correct for some classes and once were inexpensive. Now becoming thin on the ground and hence the big price hike!

Good luck & hope this assists.

Rgds Steve
