Quality ES2 kickstart

Forums

I have had the kickstart that came with my 1951 ES2 replated and fitted it back onto the bike. But kicking the engine over a few times and the splines in it are just bending out the way. I mentioned it to a friend earlier and he said this is very common with the cheap repro kickstart levers.

Does anyone know where I can get a good quality lever for the it? It's the fixed type that doesnt fold in. I don't mind a second hand one that needs plating as long as it lasts longer than a few kicks.

Thanks

Andy

A friend, here in Spain, had the same problem. The cause was that the thread, on the pinch bolt, had been cut too short. When fully tightened the kick start was not fully clamped onto the splined shaft. Cutting another few threads on the bolt cured the problem. Possibly an even easier solution would be to use a thicker washer under the bolt head.

Thanks John. I've just checked the bolt and there is plenty of thread so that wasn't the cause this time. But I'll keep and eye on it in future.
