Push rod tube seals

Forums

Can anyone explain why the push rod tubes rubber seals are so deep? Is there a lot of expansion? My '55 ES2 has custom made tubes which are longer to accommodate "O" rings in an attempt to stop leaks.

on my 55 es2 engine i have some stainless steel pushrod tubes with o rings they did not seal they tended to turn. as i have found out before if they turn they will leak. i replaced the bottom o ring with a normal seal removed about 2 millimeters off it and retained the top o ring they both tightened up ok with no leaks .i suppose if you reface the head or barrel surfaces at any stage with the rubbers being the size they are would take that up. i think it would have to be a precise fit to have just the two o rings as a seal.

hello Barry seems funny your push rod tubes turned they probably were not made to the correct length. on the o ring side i prefere them to the original ones. i would have taken 1 mill off the bottom ones and not 2 mill. at least yours dont leak oil thats the main thing. Baz
