Pre war paint?

Forums

Is there a specific silver colour suitable for a pre-war Norton available in spray cans please?

Many years ago Phil Heath wrote inThe  Classic Motorcycle that the pre war tanks were dull nickel plated. Not something that’s really possible these days. He advised that a 1974 VW Beetle Silver would be a good alternative to Norton Silver Grey.

if you do a search in the NOC website / Roadholder articles for  paint colours you should find further info

The brochures tell us the road bikes were chromed, with silver panels. But they didn't have the huge variety of paint tints in those days. I used an aerosol 2k by "Riolet" on the side panels of my 16H.

Are you re-chroming ?  If not, the late George Cohen's advice might be of interest.

hi

I used RS Paints, a water based paint, needs petrol proof lacquer over the top. The aerosol colour was Norton pre war silver grey from memory. it gives a lovely intense coat and interestingly, you can wash it off before lacquering.

RS BIKE PAINT LTD.....a good website
