It looks similar to the one on the July page of the calender, which is a Lyta Sprint style, apparently.

Some one must know who's bike it is, I would suggest the web master !!

Webmaster here ........

The bike on the cover is one of Kenny Dreer's VR880 Commandos that were created when he was running Vintage Rebuilds. This was all before his later development of the 952 Commando.

As I recall, the idea was that you provided a donor machine and agreed what it was going to look like, so each one is slightly different. If you look at the images in the Commando section of the Models pages of this web site, you will see a couple of other expressions of the VR880. The second one shown was [the only one?] imported into the UK and I think is now at the National Motorcycle Museum.

I did not make a note of the owner of this machine but I took the picture at the 2008 INOA Endless Mountains Rally in Pennsylvania. The event was rechristened the Endless Rain rally and I just managed to get some shots in between the downpours.

The tank will most likely be of U.S. origin. A message to the INOA message board would probably find somebody who could give you more details. Interestingly, you can begin to see the evolution of the production Commando 961 in the styling of the VR880.
