Painting

Good morning folks , I am asking for some advice on painting my 1960 mag alloy Manx hub and plate , I have been told smooth coat hamerite have any of you guys got any suggestions ( what about powder coat) .

Acid etch on alloy first.

Powder coating is normally much thicker than paint this often means that it has to be removed from joint faces or spoke holes in case of a hub to allow spokes to pass through. Or that with use the spoke may work its way into the coating till it bottoms out on the hub metal, this can cause spokes to lose tension and or problems with wheel rim running out of true.

yep not a good idea powder coating the hub in fact some wheel builders refuse to lace hubs that are powder coated because of the spokes coming loose
