I'm looking for an oil bath seal for my Norton 1957 model 50/350, I tried a 20mm width but this seemed too wide - is there a thinner one maybe 16mm that will fit more snugly? If so where could I buy one from? Please advise, many thanks.

Have you looked at these on EBay?
NORTON 16H WD ES2 ETC CHAINCASE RUBBER SEAL GASKET.5/8" X 3/8" SECTION.( 161488093754 )
I've just bought a couple of them for my WD bikes.

Something to keep in mind,…
Something to keep in mind, if the seal was made correctly the cross section is tapered. You must install the widest edge toward the inner cover, otherwise the outer cover wont go in all the way. Also, I like to grease mine up with a non-petroleum based grease, acts like a sealing cement, but allows for easy removal.

Also, if you tighten the centrenut too much it will squash the rubber band and allow oil leaks and also help to distort the cases.

I wonder how many rubber band types there are?I now know the twins have a rectangular one with a projecting lip round the outer edge where it contact the outer case. The '60s singles have a wedge shaped one. But this thread tells me the earlier bikes had a smaller one. That explains at last why I had so much trouble getting the case off (after 25 years with an over-size band jammed in place).My supplier seemed to be unaware and I have an over-size one jammed in now. I had to slim the nut down on the lathe. So now I need new nut as well...At least the old 16H case is a lot stiffer than the one on the Dommie so it's less likely to distort. Thankfully.Are there more than three types?
