Hi not been on the forum recently moved house not had much time for the bike .Need help now went to start it and the kick start spring broke ,stripped it down and sent off for a new spring .I have fitted the new spring and on kicking over the lever stays down .Do I need to pre tension the spring if so how .If I put it in gear the lever completely falls down.

Which gearbox have you got? Yes you pre tension the spring certainly on the early gearbox. From memory it is pretty straight forward - the 1959 Maintenance Manual (for the Jubilee) merely says "Fit kickstart return spring to shaft and pull hooked end round to engage hole in casting ".
