As Anna says, there is a strengthening piece that acts as a bridge between the two attachment points adjacent to the rear shock absorber top mounting. It is about the same gauge as the 'guard itself. There are other stiffener pieces in a 'genuine' 'guard that are noton some of the reproductions too, but they are of less consequence structurally.

At that price I would be prepared to get any extra fittings made myself, It all depends on the guard being similar enough to the real thing to be workable ,IE radius , width, length, general shape.

Hello, the bridge stiffeningplate is located where the rear suspensionunits bolts up rear mudguard and spacers for the stays, the bridge plate on underside and welded in, so Any Indian made Chrome Guards the bridge plate will have a carefully riveted in with some siliconsealer to waterproof this area, and then painted with silver-seal paint as used in heavy engineering to protect RSJs or Box Beams you often see it on steel bridges, and the like, We had 5 gallons left over from Oldridgeengineeringand Construction days back in 2006 when its closed up its doors, yours anna j

Reference âMudguards from Indiaâ, Approximately a year ago I bought a pair from a trader who adveriteses regularly on e bay, for my early slimline 99 rebuild and have just started to fit them. Well finished, holes in the right places, the rear fitted perfectly and looks good, but.....The front guard is far too wide, measuring close on 5â between the scalloped edges. My forks allow only four and half inches ! Seems that these guards fit the Atlas etc but not the early Dommie. Does anyone know where a suitable front guard can be obtained .? Nev

Hello Robert, I am from Lincoln nevillehayward@btinternet) I owned a brand new 99 in 1961
Photos show this with a deep valanced rear and shallow front. No one seems to have
a suitably narrow front guard, Approx four and a half inches between the forks.

Hi Neville, In my shed buried under the usual stuff there is a spare solid DL front guard from a 196o 99, it has a bent front lip. It fits the narrow forks. I have a wide fork Atlas that needs a front guard that I will paint black. Could possibly work for us both. Look at Google pictures of DL's ,would that do?.I will be getting my fairing out for photos soon ,a picture of the guard ??.
