Mudguards '48 ES2

Forums

Can anybody tell me what the range of years ofmudguards will fit a '48 ES2 is. I think '49 but how about into the '50's? I'm having big problems tracking them down. I see ones on eBay from India but they claim to fit '52's. I have no idea if they will fit.

Appreciate any wisdom tossed my way.....

Byron Greetings,

I am in a similar situation with a 1952 Inter...needing a front mudguard.

It seems from pictures and the 1950-53 spares list that I have, that from at least from 1948 til the end of the garden gate plunger frames in 1952, the front fender was the same, with different stays provided to compensate for the wheel size difference: the Inter having a 21" front and a 20" rear...

Also from the pictures I see on searching the net for images under "Norton International" and "Norton ES2", the evidence points to last few years of the plunger frame ES2 and the Inter carrying the same fenders.

I ordered an Indian-made front guard; I have the original stays, so I hope the shape will be correct for my application. I will post when it arrives and I can check for fit.

Cheers,

JDE

I should clarify: it seems that for the ES2, the front and rear mudguards were listed as the same for the last few years (til 1952) of the plunger frame.

The Inter seems to have had the same front guard as the ES2 for the last years of the plunger frame.

The main section of the rear mudguard is listed as a different part number between the Inter and the ES2, however the removable tip portion of the rear mudguard is listed as being the same between the two models...sorry to be confusing.

Hey,

Thanks for the info. Please do post your conclusion on the mudguard from India. I've been looking at the ones on eBay. Is that the ones you are buying?

Hard to believe that nobody makes these things....

Hello,

If it's of any use to you, all model rigid and plunger models are the same. Only the stays are different. The ones you need have a "Panama Hat" type ridge down the centre and on the front tip this splays out. On the rear, the ridge stops at the joint above the nomber plate. 1949 model has old style number plate with M110 tail light in top right corner. If you need any pictures, give me a call.

P.S. Would be nice to see how the Indian made jobbies turn out!
