Model 18 Mudguards

Forums

I amrestoring a 1939mod.18 and have a question to Norton Expers: what type ofmudguards are usedon this bike?

You should have the standard late 1930s guards for the road-going models.

The pair on the right in the parts list.

The front is ribbed and the central rib widens at the front.

The rear is a two-piece assembly. The main section has a central rib but by 1939, the number plate had a twin-bolt fixing and there was no rib on the tailpiece.

Beware of wartime 16H rear guards as they lost the rib and the tail piece was shortened over the years.

Genuine Norton guards for firder-forked rigid machines are hard to find and the quality of Far Eastern replicas is variable and in all honesty doesn't stand a comparison with original parts.

Thank you very much for so full information!

What do you know about british guards producers?

Best regards, Yuri.

I'm afraid that I don't know of any British manufacturers of replicas for these. Someone with the necessary skill could perhaps roll a rib into a universal guard of similar profile.
