I think you mean magneto chain, Wheel bearing grease was used in the old days , i would probably use it still as it is HMP and likely to stay where its needed.

Do a search on Red 'N' Tacky grease.

It has a quite high temperature rating, and sticks like the proverbial sh1t to a blanket.
