Manufacture of Unobtainable Norton Parts.

Can someone tell me what the NOC has £net in the kitty?

Then can someone tell me what proportion of funds are earmarked to manufacture parts currently unobtainable, keeping Norton's off the road or preventing them being built / restored or completed?

Is this a %, a cash budget or perhaps nothing in place at all?

If the latter then how can this be? Andover, RGM, Norvil etc are in business to make a profit. The NOC is in business to serve its members and provide a service.

Do we have a policy on this? If not then why not?

Please remember that this has been posted in Norton - General and that this message board can be read by anybody and everybody. I do not think it is appropriate for discussions about the workings of the NOC to be made available in this way and would urge Members not to reply.

The web site message boards include a Members-only News and Views forum which was put there expressly for this type of thing.

Neil - how about reposting your message in the proper place? There's nothing wrong about what you have asked, it's an interesting point.

Why does there always have to be a 'closed shop' policy on club matters?

Remember, '..anybody and everybody' may well include prospective members too.

Chris,

I'm happy at this point for you to move this to news and views. I'm aware you are not the web master any more, but if not not I'll see to it when I get back from my VMCC meeting.

Remember, if you are waiting years for a missing part or three then that is a technical issue. Drawings, dimension and materials come to mind.

As an International Member I agree with Neil, what maybe common in England is not common in my Country I look on this site for reliable and hopefully accurate information and parts, hopefully as time goes on the spares section needs to get better as fewer second hand parts will be available, in my case I am starting on a 57 ES2 project, I am yet to find another of the same year in my country. As a paid up member where is this "news and views" section on this site?

You have to log in Alan, then it is the second item under the Messages menu on the right side of your page.

Mr Hemmings has been advertising for many months for a set of decent 99/650 barrels ,without any success. If he can't find some, what chance has anyone?. Talking to my mate who makes barrels ,cranks, heads etc ,he says no problem, just need a pattern to copy and funds.

Mr Hemmings is being particular. I have a set which need new liners - he wasn't interested. I suspect he will be advertising for a long while yet.

A very valuable list would be a compilation of what obsolete parts are most requested by members. As soon as manufacturers know there is sufficient demand, the parts will appear.

I don't think there has been any conrods made for the 7,77.88,or 99 since the move to plumstead in 1963. No wonder there are no NOS.
