Kickstart spring too weak.

Forums

I have a 60 box with a weak spring allowing the K/s to flip back.I know by replacing allsorts that the later arangement is better, however perhaps I could drill and fit the spring post and use the later spring, Anyone done this?.

Hi Robert - You will find that the later k/s spring has a coil or two more than the earlier one. If you do manage to locate the spring peg into the hole in the k/s shaft you will find that the coils quickly overlap causing the mechanism to jam. The shaft is quite hard so drilling an alternative hole won't be easy. My advice is buy a new early type spring or convert to the later type with the new inner cover, k/s shaft and spring. Are your splines still ok ? If not it may be a good time to convert..... Good Luck, Howard
