Identifying OHC crank cases

Forums

I am in the process of helping clear out for a friend who has recently passed away and I have these cases to sell. The are different to any OHC cases I have seen before as there is only the one mounting stud on the bottom, and two lugs for nuts and bolts to hold the cases together.

The number 11 under the engine number indicates 500 inter but there is no year letter as I was expecting for a post war bike. Could anyone tell me what they are?

Regards

Andy

Whynot a 36/37 model 30 Andy? Itdoes seem to have a different bolt arrangement. Will the build numberto thefront revealanything to the experts?

My first thought was also 36/37 inter. But the 11 under the engine number looks likea post war identifier to me. And the single mounting stud hole at the bottom also looks wrong for pre-war to me.

Andy,

They look exactly like the cases in my 57 inter and so I would say they are 56 featherbed inter. I'm not sure why there is no prefix but the number also fits with 56. Check with Barry and ask about the PS number as I cannot make it out.

hope that helps

Barry Stickland will confirm but I suspect they missed the 'L' off. A 1956 500 inter. I'm sure the lugs are the same as mine. The other data relates to the shop ref - g/box and forks numbers the testers name and dealer.

Hi Andy,

I had a couple of bikes on display at the local village fairon Sunday. A mate had his featherbed Inter there. As shown in the photo, his crankcases are similar to yours.

regards Ian
