I have been restoring a 1924 bike (sorry not a Norton) with the hand oil pump and drip system.
Has anyone a picture or drawing of one. One that shows the non return setup that stops the oil going back into the tank.
Mine is missing.
Thank you

And here is a 1913 Douglas arrangement. The pump is spring-loaded and goes to a sight glass variable drip feed to the crankcase.

Thanks I have the pump its the innards thats the problem. I imagine a ball sits inside the spring, so as you release the plunger the oil is sucked up, the ball? seats and stops the oil returning into the tank.

Hello Robert, I have a 192…
Hello Robert, I have a 1924 HUMBER motorcycle with the hand pump oiler you enquire about, and from memory, there is a small 'clack 'valve disc beneath the pump. Google LEWIS MOTORCYCLES and go to Leon's web site, contact him and he may be able to give the required info you want.
Sorry to the other NOC members for posting on a Norton singles forum re another make.

I suspect you might need a two-way tap - like the one on the attached picture (1902 Minerva-engined Quadrant). At top left the bottom of the pump is visible.
Turn the lever sideways and lift the plunger slowly. The pump fills up. Turn it down and push a slug of oil into the sump. Wait for it to emerge all over your trousers and do it again...
Nothing flashy like a non-return valve.
