I have a question, which thankfully did not become a problem. In march i purchased a 99 project bike which (hold your breath) i decided to build as a Triton. It came with a buff log book which shows registration on 19/4/60, as a 99 600cc. Wanting to retain the original reg details were submitted to DVLA who did issue a new V5 . Even though it has a T120 engine i registered it as Norton with a view to any future developments. Now the frame is stamped as M122/890XX. 1957?? Engine 1960. Is this common?

What number was on the Norton engine which came with it?

From my data the 890XX is correct for the 1960 model year but the 122 signifies that the frame started off as a 500cc Model 88. (14 for a 99).
Letter code M usually signifies the 1957 year and R was used for 1960. However the year code was discontinued in 1960.
