Fork leather washers

Forums

Can anyone tell me if the following represents a standard conversion by Norton owners?I have a set of late 40s Long Roadholders with the short damper tubes, dual springs and leather washer setup that you would expect. It looks as if somebody has added some large brass washers between the springs and the leather washers. Such washers are not shown in the parts list.Is this done routinely to prevent the ends of the springs from chewing up the leather, or is it just an idea I have inherited from the DPO?

Hi.

I thought the leather washers were there to stop the ends of the springs chewing up the metal of the seal retainers/bottom fork yokes!!!

Sounds like a mod done by the DPO.Are they verythick? Could they have been added to stiffen upthe front end?

Incidentally Stu Rogers or RGM Motors do new washers.

Regards.

Ian.
