Fitting Roadster tank & seat to Interstate

Forums

Hi,

I am new to this, so forgive me if this is an obvious question.

I have a 1977 MK3 850 Interstate but really want a Roadster. I would like to swap the tank and seat unit, is it as simple as that. Do I need any additional fixings.

Do all Roadster tanks fit all models or are they specific to each model

Any advice would be much appreciated

Thanks

All the Roadster tanks will fit with no mods. Side panel fitting is a bit more involved. If you have the original plastic airbox fitted, where the battery side panel fixes to a bracket rivetted onto the airbox , then a mk 3 side roadster panel will fit no problem. If you dont have the original airbox then you will have to fabricate a top bracket for the the panel to fit (although I believe that Emery makes or made a bracket). Earlier Roadster side panels can be made to fit, but the tool pocket has to be removed and a lug riveted/welded to the bottom of the bracket to fit behind the Z plate as there is only one fixing lug/grommet on mk 3 frames. You may also have to cut away some of the panel at the bottom for clearance of the battery tray. it sounds involved, but it's all straight forward fettling. all the oil tank side panels will fit no problem.

Don't forget you will also need a Roadster seat.

I've done all the above a couple of times.

Agree 100% with Sam. You could just leave the Interstate side panels on but I think the roadster side panels look better.
