Fitting a Bob Newby Clutch to a laydown box

Forums

I am trying to fit a Bob Newby clutch to my 1956 Model 50 with a laydown box. It seems that you need to shorten the push rod - but by how much?  The photo shows the clutch mushroom sticking out from the gearbox shaft when the actuator arm is in the down position (i.e. clutch lever would not be pulled in). Do I need to shorten the pushrod until it is flush with the gearbox shaft?
