Ethanol news?

You may have seen the 'Ethanol News' update in the just arrived 'Roadholder' magazine.

The comment on Murco appeared quite specific but in otrher areas rather patchy, in fact a dogs dinner to say the least, not the fault of the NOC BTW.. It is appreciated that updated information is added but I wonder if we could itemiseUK nationwide E0 suppliers, at least some outlets where we know E0petrol can be purchased.

It was interesting that it was suggested to be breaking the law by not adding Ethanol (Murco95 RON) My MP insists that adding Ethanol is an industry decision ratherthan political!

Finally, this is simply a request to put some joined up effort into finding members nearest E0petrol. Please, members of the pro Ethanol lobby; accept that you have what you want in every supermarket forecourt and more. No more name calling and disruption of the question / debate: Where exactly are the E 0 fill up stations? Simples.

If you only do a few runs a year and you want a stable fuel that doesnt contain ethanol, contains lead, wont "go off" or leave nasty residues then you can buy race fuel and have it delivered to your door. Its not cheap at £20 ish a gallon, but then neither is your bike! I use it for my high comp 2 stroke race engine.

Their service is excellent.

Avgas would be much cheaper, Dan, if you have a friendly local airfield you can blag some from. Probably not much more than half the price of race fuel, it is lightly leaded, and around 100 octane.

I too have been trying to obtain the same information as you mention, Neil, but it is difficult to get definitive answers. I had the same result from Murco. When I asked them if they could be more specific, providing info on areas to which each refinery, or depot, delivers, and whether they add ethanol or not, the only answer I could get was that all west country filling stations will be supplied from depots which add ethanol, but those in the South-East are ok. They would not be more specific. I had this reply from BP :-

Thank you for your email concerning the fuel sold by BP.

In most regions of the UK our Ultimate Unleaded dos not contain any Ethanol at present (South West UK excluded). This may of course change in the future as the specification allows up to 5%. If there will be any changes, these will bw shown on the pumps and at the stations.

BP does not supply Bio Ethanol as a fuel.

I have just returned to Cornwall from the Goodwood Festival of Speed, and took the opportunity to fill a couple of jerry cans with Murco Superunleaded whilst there. This only solves the problem whilst within a tank-range of home. A group of fellow NOC'ers will be riding from Cornwall/Plymouth to the Isle pf Man for the Manx this August, and I am trying to plan for ethanol-free fuel stops on the way there and back. It looks as though I am going to struggle!

Gents, please have a look at the statement on the bottom of my VMCC home page. (Neil's Norton Notes) I believe Murco Super and BP Ultimate are our best bet, in addition to Avgas and Dan's race fuel. I updated to suit the current situation.

(+ anywhere still selling Bayford Thrust 4* leaded)

I understand that all petrol in the IOM is E0 because their equipment is not suitable to deal with the nasty solvent. Remember, here the hoses had to be replaced after Ethanol attack. Any IOM member wish to confirm?
